I have always wrapped a chain around the front cross member. However, it
tends to hit the front valence if there is any upward angle on the chain. If
you have concerns about this, you may want to try a tow strap instead of a
chain and maybe a board under the cross member to lower the strap so it does
not bend the front valence.
