Actually, spar varnish is not the best choice although it does provide good UV
protection. A true spar varnish contains more tung oil than most varnishes and
as a consequence is quite soft and more easily damaged. There are a wide
variety of marine varnishes and urethanes that would be more durable and
provide good UV protection (except interior satin or rubbed effect finishes).
Interlux Clipper Clear Urethane would be a good choice.
