I had to pull the tranny recently to figure out a strange
noise...turned out to be a broken spring on the clutch disk.
I decided to throw in the roller bearing described above to
"improve" driveability. It makes the same noise as yours.
As you noted, the bearing did appear to be pre packed with
grease. Since it's not driving my wife crazy, I guess we'll
just live with it until the next clutch change...
