So last night I'm in my garage swaping parts. First I go to take off the
old heater fan from the S3. As I pulled on the fan engine to pull the
whole unit down, the "fan chamber" for lack of a better word, crumbled into
my hands. Fortunately, I planned on using the one from my SV, which came
off fine and went right on (without a circular gasket on top). The motors
appear slightly different and the SV one has a plastic fan, while the S3
one has a metal one.
Then I went to the windshield wipers. I pulled off the S3 one, no problem.
Took off the SV one, no problem. They are different too. The SV one
looked a little more beefy, and had better mounting. Unfortunately, the
tubes that hold the rotating wiper parts and attach to the motor, are
different lengths between the two. So, if I bolted up the SV one, the
rotating parts would not go into the holes. I can probably just swap the
tube parts. Although I never got to the point where I checked to see if
the bolt patter is exactly the same. I'll see tonight.
The dash is now completely loose, with all of its guages, switches and even
the complete wiring harness still attached. That will be an easy carry
over (I hope).
Tonight I will also finish disconnecting all things attached to the engine
that will not be rolling out with it. I've done lots of measuring, and I
am reasonably comfortable that with a wheel dollie under each front wheel,
and one under the transmission, after unbolting the crossmember and
transmission, I'll be able to jack up the car body and roll it all out the
front (though I actually think I'll have to let the air out of the tires
for complete clearance!)
