 To all USA Alpine enthusiasts-
You can now join the Sunbeam Alpine Owner's Club (England) for one year for $42 US. I will pay your dues in British pounds to the SAOC so you do not have to get a check in pounds. Please read the letter below for more information. Also for your information -
The one year membership fee is 23 pounds. The exchange rate is one pound = $1.76 plus $1.52 for processing. Many US Alpine owners are reluctant to join the SAOC. This is mainly due to the club requirement for the dues payment to be in British pounds. Most US banks do not have a large demand for checks in a foreign currency, thus the service fee is usually $10-$20. I have been a SAOC member for years and I still dread renewal time. However, your newsletter is superb and I feel that non-members are really missing out on a good thing. I feel that the idea of a US representative for SAOC membership would increase the total membership in SAOC and help support the preservation of the Sunbeam marquee. Thus, I have volunteered to provide this service to our US Alpine (and other Rootes Group cars) enthusiasts. I only plan on keeping this post for two years. Then I hope someone else will take it over. I propose the following procedures for joining the SAOC through the !
US representative. There will be a fixed amount for joining. This will depend on the exchange rate at the time I put 200 pounds in a special US members SAOC account. This rate will be firm until the 200 pounds is gone. If the rate goes up you get a bargain, if the rate goes down you pay extra unless you want to get a check issued at your own bank. If contacted by mail, please send a stamped self addressed envelope to me with your check/money order for your dues and I will mail you a membership form. If contacted by e-mail, please send me a check/money order only and I will send you an electronic form. Please state if you need Word for PC or Word for Mac. It will be your responsibility to fill out and return the form to the SAOC. I will notify SAOC of your address and to subtract your dues from the US members account after I receive your check. Please note that SAOC memberships come in two forms. A full year starting October First (currently 23 pounds) and a half ye!
ar fee starting April 1 (currently 16 pounds). There are no pro-r

Below is the welcome letter from SAOC with more information about the club.

Dear prospective member,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding membership of the Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club. We have approximately 900 members world wide, from Iceland to Australia, and produce a bi-monthly magazine, the cost of which is inclusive of the membership fee.

A "National" meeting is organised each year by a local area group in the U.K., usually during July / August and attracts varying quantities of overseas members. The majority of members use tents or caravans and the location is often a stately home or a private school, where there are good facilities such as showers, swimming pool or banqueting hall. Most of the Alpine spares suppliers attend this meeting and it is a good opportunity to find that bit that you've been searching for.

The club keeps a voluntary register of members' cars and holds a limited stock of spares and regalia, which are for sale to members. We also endeavour to source, or have manufactured, certain spares, which would not be commercially viable for parts suppliers to stock.

All club committee posts are voluntary and the club relies on the magazine and local area monthly meetings, (whether established or impromptu), to promote itself, its members and, of course, our beloved cars, although not all members have theirs on the road. There is also a club website, which can be found on www.saoc.demon.co.uk, where further details of the club are available. The membership fees are as on the attached application form and please note that the subscription year is from October 1st to September 30th, with a half yearly option for new members.

I look forward to welcoming to the club.
        Regards,
Simon Edwards
