How much too long? If it's less than 1/2" inch, you can simply press
the pulley flange further onto the shaft, effectively reducing the
distance of the fan to the radiator. With a stock fan it's a little
harder because there's no hole through the fan for the shaft to go
through (though there is about a 1/2" of extra space). If you have an
after market flex fan, it'll have a hole through it, so you can adjust
the flange as much as you need.
