Paul,
I am in the middle of rebuilding and re-covering both of my seats,
which is taking quite a few evenings. As far as replacing the
foam with new ones from Sunbeam Specialties, it should be pretty
simple.
First, remove the little metal clips which hold the covering
from the underside of the bottom seat Take off the front and
two forward side section clips. One edge is covered with a rubber/plastic
trim that you will need to ease off in order to get to the clips
below.
Once the three sides are off, you should be able to gain pretty
good access to the foam from the front of the seat. Hopefully,
you will not need to separate the back from the bottom and remove
the reclining mechanism to get further back (the most time-consuming
part. If you do, keep track of the setup :). The old foam should
separate from the covering, underside fabric, and frame with
a little gentle cutting here and there. You can glue in the new
one in the same places with contact cement and then tighten the
cover and push the metal clips back on underneath(might need
a tack hammer to help).
Good Luck,
Andrew Gregg

Hi all:
After a run over to my dad's this weekend - about 3.5 hours one
way, it
became very clear to me that it is time to rebuild the seats
in Ol'
Blue. My bottom was tired and a bit sore! I have stock seats
- Series
V. The upholstery is in good to excellent condition, but the
foam
material in the seat bottoms is beginning to disintegrate. I
am finding
more and more small particles on the carpet under the seat.
Any
suggestions as to a good way to rebuild the seats - also, what
about
sources for seat material - foam cushioning, etc. Any help will
be
greatly appreciated.

hunters from all over the US.
