Actually, the prevention such coolants proclaim really means that it
inhibits its' own corrosive qualities and that of the H2O it's mixed
with. So it doesn't really prevent corrsion, it just slows it down.
Aluminum parts are particularly prone to corrosion. Though I'm not
certain of the exact chemical reason why, both water and glycol based
coolants can corrode aluminum. I believe a copper anode has been used
in the past (before glycol coolants) to inhibit the process.
