Following some repairs a few years back, my Alpine
used to cut out periodically -- it turned out to be a
slightly loose intake manifold. When the engine
warmed up, a bump in the road could loosen the
manifold and allow the engine to gulp air. This would
cause the engine to "lean out" and die.
Another time, I had a bad lead to the coil which would
work fine until I really had to use the car. Then it
would shake loose and kill the engine.
