There should be black barrel connectors aprox mid way up the fender where
the wires are connected. They can be hard to pull apart sometimes. I would
first check the ground connection. They should be located on the bottom side
of the front hood buffers and on early cars they are screwed to the side of
the engine compartment at just about the same location. There you will find
the same bullet type connectors plugged into a small plated connector. These
will corrode and cause bad and sometimes intermittent connections. That is
most likely the cause for your dim headlight. Try cleaning the bullet
connectors and see what happens. Sometimes you will need to remove the screw
holding the connector to the fire wall and make the loop for the bullet
connector a little tighter. Gently squeeze it with some small pliers, but be
very careful. They will break if you squeeze too much. At this time you can
check to see if there is any corrosion between the connector and the body.
