Excuse me, coming in from far left field here (and with bugger-all
knowledge of S1s)....
Early S1s were build by Armstrong Siddeley, correct?
When did production move to Rootes?
Is it possible that dash colour is related to this? eg AS painted 'em
black, Rootes changed to silver.
I read that the AS-built cars had a metal tag attached them, proclaiming
the virtues of their maker. Those affected might like to check their
cars
for such a tag.
