Last week I got a couple of paper v/c gaskets from Rick (at) S/S. When I went
to use one, I found it wouldn't fit. It appeared to have shrunk, as the hole
spacing was too short. When gently trying to stretch it over the studs, of
course, it broke.... Damn. I had bought two, but the other was the same way,
so I didn't see the point of ripping the other one as well. I ended up using
the cork one I had "in stock", but I had to replace the factory studs with
longer ones, due to the extra thickness of the cork gasket. No one had long
enough (4 inch) studs, so I cut down bolts and Locktighted 'em in.
I called Rick last night and he suggested that the fix to these gaskets was
to soak them in water and then just let them dry out on their own and that
should restore their size. Make sense? Anyone hear/use this before? Does
it work?
Rick DID offer to give me another gasket next time I order something else, so
I'm not upset with him... Just would like to figure this out.
