Not an hour past the Moment of Doom and things (but me) are still
standing way up here.
The question below is right over my head, posted by a merry wanderer
through the Sunbeam Auto Showroom.
As for race-prep websites I know of only two, one for GT racing and the
other for Larry Mayfield's monster-car. I suspect race-types are more
likely to be touching metal than keyboards, but if you have something to
say or know where there is something, send it along.

Subject: Alpine carburettors - Help wanted!
Dear Jerome,
Happy 2000, & thanks for the work you & many other "Sunbeam smittees"
have put into the web sites & info therein. As an almost computer
illiterate 1 finger typist smittee who is playing on the net as an
excuse to stay in a darkened room the day after a BIG New Years Eve, I'm
really enjoying looking through them. All hail the ringmaster.
Background:
I & several others are sufficiently deranged to regularly race our
Alpines in Historic race meetings held in the 3 Eastern States of
Australia. There are also several Alpines starting to compete in
Regularity events at those meetings, & a Tiger regularly doing very well
in Historic rallying (on tarmac).
Unfortunately the rules for historic racing are very clear in relation
to carburettors - they must be the same type & number as the factory
fitted originals, which "definition" includes factory homologated tuning
parts.
Problem:
The Alpines racing here are Series I & II's in the 1950-1960 category &
my IV in the 1961-1965 category. We all desperately need the extra urge
of Webers, me to put those hordes of Weber bristling MGB's into their
rightful place & the 1950-1960 boys to burst out of the milling MGA
horde.
Way Forward:
The eligibility officer will allow them on the Alpines if it can be
proven that twin Webers were a factory homologated tuning part / factory
fitment, & may allow same if it can be proven they were a Rootes
approved modification (such as a dealer fitted option). There is no
doubt that the Brabham twin Weber option fitted by dealers comes into
this last category.
Assistance Request:
We smittees (of the racing variety) over here have tried every avenue we
can to get Webers, but without documentary proof we have not succeeded.
And none of us can find any!
I therefore wonder if you could please point me in the direction of
getting the info we need. Such as where to source a genuine (provable)
list of factory homologated tuning parts, or even a sales brochure on
the Brabham Alpines (a copy on the net?).
I'm happy to do the chasing, but some names & email addresses would get
me started.
Thanks in anticipation, & mark me down to buy you a beer when you come
to Sydney - I'm hoping to owe you one!
Bob Boulter
P.S. Is there a dedicated web site for tips on race preparing an
Alpine, or is 1959-68 Sunbeam Alpine Tech Tips it?
