Continuing in the DIY theme here, I'm building my own roll bar for my Series
II. I'm using 1 5/8 x .120 mild steel tubing and 5/16 plate for the mounts.
There will be a cross bar from the top of the hoop on the drivers side to the
bottom on the right. The rear supports will be about 17.5 inches long and
connect right in front of the rear panel hinges (on plate welded to that
piece of "frame" there) and attached to the hoop about shoulder height. If
it wasn't for that hinged panel that has to swing forward, I could bring them
up higher on the hoop for better fore/aft support.
Now the question... to those of you that have made or bought BOLT IN roll
bars for our wondrous beauties... Did they come with any kind of back-up
plates which should go under the floor pan (to sandwich the floor)? These
are standard issue and are required for any bolt in roll bar or cage in SCCA
and any other road racing rules. Since right where the hoop attaches to the
floor, that area of the floor pan is a double panel area and unless you cut
it open, there is NO WAY to get a back-up plate up in there. Did you guys
just use as big of washers as you could?
Rather than butcher up the underside, and for maximum strength, mine is
getting welded in...

ps: Eric, bring yours down, we can do 'em both...
