Jonathan, I have been in the same boat recently and I found out that most
rental companies won't rent you a trailer unless you have a pickup with a
frame mounted hitch. So I think your only option would be a dolley, which
rests the front wheels of the car up on the dolly and the rear wheels are
still on the ground. You could probably rent a bumper hitch for your
vehicle. I did tow an alpine with a tow bar once and it went okay. But it
was only 50 miles and the alpines bumpers aren't that strong, I wouldn't
recommend it for 1,000 miles. Another option would be to rent a truck and
trailer from uhaul or whoever, it might be cheaper than what the delivery
compaines are asking. Hope this helps
