I still feel better welding 'em.  Before I did, I rewelded all the spot welds 
in the area and properly tied in the wheelwell and "B" pillar pieces.  I then 
welded the hoop bases (kinda triangular shaped as big as would fit) to these 
side panels as well as the floor/package area thereby tying all that together.
My rear braces don't go to the sheet metal, they were welded to angle plate 
reinforcing the frame part that sticks through to floor area.  The only 
trouble with that setup is with these tubes being straight, I had to beat in 
the wheelwells some to allow clearance.  I felt better putting them to the 
reinforced frame, than to plain sheet metal.
