I converted my Series V to overdrive. It had a 4:22 rear with a stock 4
speed which was useless for highway driving (RPM's way too high). With the
overdrive installed, I changed out the differential to a 3:9 unit and it's
great. (Thanks to Tiger Tom for talking me into this setup). It's my
everyday car and I travel on the freeways 5 days a week. With its new
combination I cruise at 70MPH at 3500 RPM and do 80 at around 4000 RPM (not
that I would ever break the speed limit). Actually, I think the car
accelerates better now than before since I can "wind it up" longer on taking
off. With my previous combination, 65MPH required close to 4400 RPM which is
way too high. Anyway, 65-75MPH is a breeze in the car now with no strain
whatsoever on the motor, or the ears.
