Hi Pete,

MAACO's $700 dollar job will ultimately look like a cheap paint job! I've
spent far more than $3000 for a paint job, but then again, they look it. I
understand the problem of spending more money on the car than it's value,
but the pride of having a nice paint job will outlast the sting to the
wallet! What you're actually getting for $3000 is another issue.

Are they doing a lot of body work? Will they be using metal for the
repairs? What kind of paint will they be using? How are they going to take
out the small dings and dents? How much of the car are they going to
dis-assemble to paint the car? All these answers will justify the value of
a good paint job. The way they like MAACO use a lot of plastic filler to
fix dents, rather than pull them out, or hammer them out. They mask
everything on the car, and paint around everything instead of removing the
bumpers, lights, and door handles. As I'm sure you've heard, good paint is
all in the preparation. What good is painting a car if the rust, and
repairs start to lift, crack, and blister after a year or two?

Choose wisely. Spend wisely!

Tom

Hey Everyone,
Just received an estimate for finishing (Paint and Bodywork) my 66 Alpine.
About $3000.00. Is it worth it for a non-show car. Or should I take it to
the
Famous MAACO for a $700.00 job. My rationale is, the car is not really
worth
much on the open market. (Plus I still need to get the interior) Help- I
need
opinions on this one.
Thanks fellow Beamers,
Pete Sanville
