That pesky choke cable

Greetings all,
My name is Edward Peirce and I have been a member of the list for month
or two now and have enjoyed reading all the helpful insights about the
subjects that come to light on this list. I have a '67 series 5 right hand
drive that was originally bought in England and shiped to someplace in
Africa, where it picked up a coat of house paint (the real cheap way to
paint your car), then it was ship to New York when the owner moved to the
states. From there it was driven to Tallahassee, FL and sat in a garage
for the next 14 years till I bought it from him.
Now for my question...after having some work done on my exhaust
manifold so my car doesn't sound like a herd of elephants as I ride down
the road I need to put everything back together. That's no problem until I
get to the choke cable. The cable likes to float around when I try to set
the choke on the car. After examining the choke mechanism I discovered
that the previous owner had use a small C-clamp to hold the cable in
place. I have also seen a hose clamp use to hold the cable in place. Any
ideas on why the cable likes to float around and how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help with this problem.
