Steering Alignment

Some more thoughts on your alignment. On re-reading your post, it sounds
like that plate is correct. The tricky part is that some of the bolts do
not go through the wheel well, but only into the plate. In fact, I think
only three go through. So, maybe you are trying to push the wrong three
through.

Secondly, something I noted in the SAOC handbook, the arm at the bottom of
the steering box is splined. It apparently has some thicker spines in
there to make sure it is put back on in the right position. However, the
handbook warned that it is still possible to put it one wrong, it just
doesn't seat all the way. I can't imagine that would allow the cross
linkage to be wrong. It would more likely than not just make it difficult
to get the steering centered with the center of the lock to lock inside of
the box. Nonetheless, I mention it for you to check as long as you are
going over everything.
