Here's a problem that I'd welcome suggestions on . . .
The engine in my 1967 Series V is all original and has about 75,000 miles on
it. It runs great, good oil pressure, etc. But I have trouble getting it
started.
When I first turn the key, the engine cranks but does not turn over. After
a few seconds or cranking the engine, the starter kicks out of the flywheel
with a "whrrrrrrrr." Then the next time I turn the key, the starter kicks
out almost instantly. Turn the key again, same thing -- starter barely
cranks the engine before it kicks out. I have to repeat this a few times,
and then the engine will sputter, but the starter will kick out before it
really starts. A few more times, and finally the engine fires and I'm good
to go.
A couple notes:
-- I replaced the starter a couple months ago, but that did not fix the
problem. At that time, we noticed some wear on the ring gear.
-- The colder it is, the more times I have to turn the key before the engine
fires.
Any suggestions as to the problem (or problems) I have here, and possible
solutions? I am new to Alpine ownership and this list, and I don't know if
this is one you've already discussed, but I'd welcome your thoughts.
Thanks
