RE: idle problems

We talking strombergs or downdraught zenith carbs here?

On either, when the throttle shafts get worn, the mixure runs lean at idle.

On the downdraught, when in decel, the idle jet usually over-richens the
mixture,
but after the manifold vacuum settles out, the mixture becomes lean. This
makes
the idle speed go progressively lower as the mixture leans out.

Also 1.5 to 2 psi is higher than you ought to run on either carb.
If the natural seat leakage which is pressure based, is greater than the
engines idle fuel consumption, the bowls can overflow and cause poor idle
and possible stalling, with a great difficulty in restarting.

Hope one of the two tips helps you out.
