For a quick check of any seals around the carbbys. At idle spray WD-40 at all
fittins if the engine raises in rpms then you have an intake leak . if the area
at the thru-rods does the raising of rpms then the seal is gone .

You should have set the carbs up for the idle before and if the engine idles
too slowly it may be just an adjustment. I would defintely rebuild at any
chance, just to make sure ,,,first. .

The clutch will slow down the engine at any rate but shouldn't kill it.
