Chuck,
I have never had a problem getting them out by hand. I bet there is ZERO
torque on them: perhaps oil and goop, but no torque. The loading went away
when the heads popped off!
To remove them, I have used a variety of techniques including using a
short pencil in a reversable drill. Push the eraser end into the broken
bolts and slowly back them out. Find a similar bolt to replace each one
with, as you really don't want the assembly loose: even with broken bolts,
the remaining shanks are acting like dowels.
