Brent,
 I had a friend who sprayed clear lacquer on his carbs after a rebuild. He
claimed that it kept them clean for a long time because the dirt would not
stick as bad. I notice that Eastwood has a clear lacquer for spraying on
polished metal. It might work, but I would ask someone at Eastwood before
using it for that purpose.
