My son and I are beginning the task of restoration of the Series 5 we
picked up last year. One of the items which I think is original is the
coil with the ballast resistor connected off to the side. I would rather
install a coil that has the ballast resistor built in. Is this a simple
change over or am I missing something electrical by making this swap.
I also noticed the previous owner used silicone in the brake lines. I
have always used Castrol brake fluid with great success. If I'm not
mistaken, once silicone is used, one cannot change to DOT 3 without
completely purging the system. Also, the clutch reservoir is dry and
their is no clutch pressure. I wonder if silicone was used here also, or
is that not an option with clutch hydraulics. As always, any advice
appreciated. Brent Kasl S2,S5,Imp 1
