You can temporarily hook the field terminal to the battery ( bypassing the
regulator ) & see if the current/voltage goes way up. BTW, sometimes this
needs to be done when installing the generator, it may not charge...the
field windings need to be polarized before the generator will
work.....maintain more than idle when you do this.........and only bypass
the regulator for a short time ( enough to get a reading.......-art-
