I was able to talk with Don Sesslar regarding the Series IV which he raced
and won the National F-Production title. When I asked him about the badge
on the front of the hood he said all he could remember was that it was:
1) Rectangular like a shield, pointy at the bottom
2) He thought it had the title "Rootes Group" across the top
If you check the photo in the Sunbeam ad, "What brings the Class F
Championship home?" (February, 1965, Sports Car Graphic as well as the
Champion Spark Plug ad in '65) You will see that the badge does have a
rectangular look to it.
I am hoping that listers from England will be able to tell me if any Rootes
automobiles used a rectangular shield as an emblem as Don described? It
could be from any vehicle and doesn't have to be a "hood" badge but it is
about the size of the round hood badge found on Series 1+II+III.
Thanks,
Steve Silverstein
