Zippers? I have all series cars and not one of them had any zippers.
As far as trunks, hood, doors:
Trunks. There is no difference between a series 1 &2 trunk lid. A series 3
will fit, but it has a molded brace in the frame. A real expert could spot
the difference but who would care. A series 4 lid is identical to a 3 except
it has three holes to mount an emblem that says 4. This is also the same as
a Mk I Tiger lid. Very early series 5 trunk lids are the same, (as are early
MK1a Tigers) as a series 4 trunk, but later series 5 trunks lack the rounded
corners and will not fit. Very late Tigers, MkII do not have the holes in
the trunk for individual S.U.N.B.E.A.M. letters, but a script that says
Sunbeam in cursive. I am unsure if the last Alpines are the same, but I
think they might be.
Doors. Series 1 & 2 doors are identical except a weather protector is
screwed into the top inner edge of a series 2. There are some bolt on parts
that are interchangeable so for all intents and purposes, they are the same.
Series 3 doors are square in the front and will not fit an early car. Early
series 4 doors are identical to series 3 doors. There are also two types of
3 & 4 doors, GT and sportster. They are similar except the GT door has tabs
spotwelded inside the door to allow the mounting of a special GT interior.
They can be made to fit by welding in the tabs, or cutting them out. It is
up to the end item user. Ditto for Tigers. Later series 4 doors are square
cornered and will not fit. Ditto for tigers. Series 5 doors are similar to
the later square cornered series 4 doors, but the window crank is in a
different position. Ditto for period Tigers.
Hoods. Series 1 & early series 2 are identical. They have a hole cut in the
brace to clear the radiator. Later series 2 and 3 are identical in that they
have the inner brace contoured to clear the Radiator, and a small tab mig
welded to the inner brace for prop rod mount. Series 4 is identical to
series 3 except there are no holes to mount an emblem, and the prop rod tab
is spot welded to the inner brace. Later series 4 hoods are square cornered
and will not fit an earlier series 4 or any earlier car. Series 5 is
identical to late series 4. Ditto for period Tigers, except the last tigers,
Mk II had two holes to mount a script.
It only takes 3 licks to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop,
except some series never make it without biting. Lou
