I haven't looked inside yet however from what I can see the push button
on the outside handle feels like it is working and the inside handle
feels right as well but neither is lifting the striker latch and thus
the door will not open... please let me know what to try...

Aaron, Are you sure the problem is the latch. When I first got my
Alpine I had to give the
door a good shot with the heel of my hand to pop it open.
