No, not what you thought... On both of my Series II's, there are big screws
in the rear wheel housings that only go into a backing plate. Their purpose
eludes me, except to be a starting place for rust (of which there were A LOT
of on the restoration car, but not much on the ex-parts car - now hot rod
project).
Maybe they were for some shoulder belt mounts?
