I've also heard synthetics can sometimes cause older engines to leak more
past the seals. And at $$ a quart, do you still change the oil as often?

Bill,
        I think my first choice would be Mobil 1 in the transmission first
and
if I have any money left, then in the engine. Also, Red line oil makes
an excellent transmission oil that I would consider as well. I recommend
staying away from the oil additives.
