[How the kit arrived!]
When I read ads in 'Triumph World' and '7Times' it became clear to me. I wanted the rear disc conversion from S&S Preparations. The price of 699 GBP was within my budget.

I send a fax to England. I wanted to collect the rear disc/axle myself and on day zero I went first to Rimmers (to collect a revised engine) and then to S&S.

Unfortunately all the bits and pieces were there but I couldn't bring the stuff with me home! The kit wasn't prepared yet. So I agreed to send the stuff to Belgium within the next week.

Installing the kit was very simple.
[The solid rear disc] Tuning the handbrake was easy and light. The first problem encountered. My original 13' wheels didn't fit. With a bit skeezing they went over the assembly but became stuck with the calipers.
I had luck, from another TR7 I took 13' Monza alu-wheels and they fitted nicely.

With the first test drive the second problem appeared. The new rear axle wasn't exactly 'new'. Yes it was painted and assembled but not restored.

[Solid rear disc] But the braking was definitely positive. This was surely due  to the rear discs but also the uprated master cylinder and servo.

So after many kilometers/miles in 1996 I must say that I'm a satisfied customer. I'm a bit sad because the rear axle isn't new, just rebuild with the same old pieces.

[Rear caliper] If you decide to undertake the rear disc conversion here are a few tips.

  • Exchange with the same diff.
  • Make sure your wheels/rims will fit.
  • Exchange parts back to S&S, otherwise you have to pay another 75 UK pound.
  • Collect the kit yourself in England.
  • MOT
