I went through a copy of the Concours D'Elegance Rules (March 1983!) and
noticed that
the only mentions of the doors is.... you lose a point for conversion to air
doors and
they must operate up and down as well as the paneling on the doors must be
correct.
I would like to bring up the point that these rules (if they have not already
been updated)
could be changed to take into account the fact that most of our cars have been
converted
from hydraulic to air for opeation. The doors are the most outstanding part of
our cars and
conversion to air is the only practical way to use our cars....(they almost
came that way
from the factory except for various circumstances). Therefore maybe there
could be a
definition as to what is a "stock"air door system such as.... use of original
hydaulic rams
or after market types, type and location of pumps be they electric or
vacuum,type and
location of air tank, routing of air lines and wiring. This may sound like
nitpicking but a
major modification such as this from stock done to the majority of our cars
almost makes
it the "stock form" and could be defined as to what constitutes an "authentic"
air door
system. Brian vin #1448
