I'd like to provide an update on the status of
the Rover Saloon Touring Club of America.

We are finally a going concern. We currently have approximately 50
members. We are registered with the Internal Revenue Service, have a
bank account and the whole nine yards. Membership packages have been
mailed to everyone who has sent in the full $18.00 first-year dues
($15.00 dues + $3.00 on-time joining fee). Check your mailboxes.

The membership package contains the following:

- a small but excellent book detailing the history of the Rover marque
- a comprehensive list of Rover parts suppliers worldwide
- contact information for virtually every Rover automobile club in the
world
- a list of Rover-related books and service manuals with sources
- a high quality vinyl window decal displaying the club logo (inside
static application)

During the organizational phase of the club, many of you sent in $5.00
donations to help us get on our feet. As you may know, I never cashed
any of those checks. Yesterday, I mailed them all back to you with an
update on the club dues structure, a registration form, and a request
that you now formally join the club. If you complete the application
and send it right back to me, you'll be on board in time to receive our
first newsletter via the March 1999 issue of the British Marque
multi-club newspaper.

The RSTCA has already organised one gathering of Rovers thanks to the
efforts of Steve Manwell last season. Steve is now wearing the hat of
RSTCA Events Organiser. If you can suggest a show or event that might
be a good gathering place for Rovers, please contact Steve (especially
if you can volunteer to help out on the local level). We just heard
about an actual Rover event sponsored by British Bulldog in
Massachusetts. We feel the annual show in Bowie, Maryland is a prime
candidate. We will also have a club presence at the Import and Kit Car
show at Carlisle, Pennsylvania (God, don't let it rain). Please help
out.

An entry for the RSTCA was published in the Hemmings Old Car Almanac,
and we have actually begun to receive invitations to participate in car
shows. A couple of companies have even offered to sponsor events, so
we're on our way to somewhere!

So, if you're in the USA and have a Rover and haven't gotten involved,
now would be a good time to do so! (Besides, I know who most of you are
and will soon begin to pester you to sign up. Let's save ourselves the
agony of that!) If you know any other Rover saloon lovers who would be
interested in joining our club, please pass our contact information on
to them. A significant number of the people already involved are not
currently "computer people" and we'd love more of those if you can flush
them out. We have also had a strong response from Sterling owners, many
of whom are also interested in learning about the older cars.

On the web, you can contact us at:

The club mailing address is:

Please make an effort to get involved as a club is only as good as its
membership, and I know there are some good ones reading this message
right now!
