FYI/IMHO:

 When using a remote oil filter (either by adapter from
existing spin-on filter location, or by direct (block)
plumbing, it is advisable to use a free-flow oil filter
and _not_ a 'flow-back controlled' type.  Engines which
have filters on the side of the block, and/or at such an
angle as to allow the oil to drain back thru the pump to
the pan, _do_ last longer with a controlled return filter.
However, in remote locations, unless the filter is mounted
up-side-down or horizontal, a flow-back controlled filter
is not recommended.  Any flow-back controlled filter will
inherently require at least 5psi of oil pressure to push
oil thru the flap in a forward direction.

Note: I noted last month that some major filter vendors
had added a flow-back flap to some existing filters which
had _not_ previously had one.  One in particular was the
long filter for Chevy/GMC/AMC/Etc.. V8 engines.  This act
is to allow the older existing filter (and number) to be
used on newer vehicles/engines which mount the oil filter
sideways without the vendor making both an 'old' and 'new'
filter number.  Beware!  Look closely at that new filter
you have been buying in the past.  On an older Chevy/GMC
V8 engine, the filter pressure bypass valve is in the part
you have to remove to add the remote filter adapter.  If
you have the room, the dual-filter remote adapter is the
item of choice.  Running the filters in parallel will
minimize the pressure drop across the filters. I have ran
~100 lbs. of pressure against a remote two filter adapter
setup.  No problem with AC/FRAM/LEE filters exploding. 

 Always remember the incoming oil circulates around the
_outside_ of the filter media thru to the _inside_ and
out to the gallery.  It is very easy to mis-identify an
input and return line connection when using an adapter
to an existing (OEM) spin-on filter mounting location.

 I also have seen some low-volume/low-pressure (VW type)
adapters and hoses used on high-volume/high-pressure V8
engines with disastrous results.  A rule of thumb is to
use 7/16" or 1/2" ID hose for remote filter applications
if at all possible.  The smaller the ID of the hoses the
higher the static pressure will be on the filters for a
given volume of oil flow.  Especially on the output side.
