Here is a really obscure question for folks on the list.  I am restoring my
factory MGB-GT V-8, and early factory photos of the engine bay show most of
the fasteners on the engine to be black plated (except for the valve cover
screws which are chrome plated). It looks like Solihull may have used black
fasteners when building up the engines, and the few items that Abingdon
added (like the air cleaners) were held on with shiny plated fasteners.

Any of you out there have early (mid-70s) Rover engines that use black
plated fasteners on things like the timing cover, water pump, alternator
bracketing, intake manifold, etc.?  I'm trying to get a feel for how common
the use of black plated fasteners was, or if it was peculiar to the GT V-8.
