List,

I wrote a few days ago that I had to wait long for my oil pressure on start
up. I found this was due because of two reasons. 1. I used an old Nissan
filter that the anti drain back valve had probably dried up and went away
while it spent six years on my shelf. 2. My anti drain back tube was
missing.

I tried to find a replacement tube a the Nissan wrecking yard and I found a
couple. But they were attached to complete engines and the owner would not
sell them (unless I bought the whole engine). These tube were used on Naps-Z
motors from early 80 sentras (I think that's what they were) (they had a "Z"
on the valve cover). I spoke to Dennis and he told me I could make one with
1/2 copper pipe. I tried that this morning. I found out that you had to
reduce the size of the copper pipe so it would fit snug in the oil filter
mounting. I couldn't think of a way to do that cleanly.

So I took a walk around the block to think a bit on the problem. While
walking, a picked up litter as I like to do to keep the hood looking good
and I picked up an aluminum tent pole that I paid no attention to.

I got home and looked at the problem again and while I did, I played
nervously with the tent pole. then I held up the copper pipe to my eye and
noticed that the pole was the same dia And was already reduced for it's slip
joint. I cut it to fit and It fit perfect!

Very cool! I replaced the filter with a WIX 51515, which is for the 5.0
mustang.

Problem solved,
