RTV will eventually turn to slime if exposed to oil. Little bits of the
stuff then tend to find their way into critical oil passages, like in the
rod bearings. DON'T use it to seal oil leaks!
Nissan and Toyota both make a silicone based gasket cement which is suitable
for oil exposure, with or without a gasket. They both use this cement alone
for oil pans and other locations on newer cars. The only downside is the
cost. An 8oz tube costs about $15.
Hylomar is also impervious to oil, and works quite well to cure difficult
leaks - like U20 valve cover gaskets. I use Hylomar on most of the gaskets
on my Roadster and highly recommend it. Also, if you're building a rotary
engine, Hylomar is the only thing I've heard of that will reliably seal side
housing O-rings (the rotary equivalent of a head gasket)
