For what its worth, I recently installed a header on my stepson Sean's
1600 when I put in a u20 pressure plate and new clutch. I didn't change
anything else in the exhaust system, which has had just the small stock
muffler then straight through to the back. I found the the exhaust
pulses seemed smoother and slightly quieter. It sounded like a bus
before, now it sounds really sweet and smooth. I raced.... uh hum, I
compared acceleration ability with my son Daniel's 1600. The first time
we .... compared acceleration abilities a few weeks ago, his headered
and turbo muffled car pulled away significantly. This time I pulled away
till about 4800 rpm in 4th, he started gaining... near the speed
limit.... when we both backed out.... uh hum. Definitely put in a
header. It does look and sound better in my opinion.
