When a cam breaks in the middle, it can be caused by a warped cylinder head. 
The head is then resurfaced but the cam journals no longer line up. This 
loads the middle of the cam, and can actually bend it. Before you go to far, 
trial fit the "new" cam and make sure it spins by hand.
