"List":

What a pleasure it was yesterday, to be driving the Roadster
to the beach after more than a month being "off road" It
was one of my longest "down times" in 35 years of Roadster
ownership.

I want to express my deeply felt gratitude to all of the
list members who contributed thoughts towards solving my
problem, and to John Sandhoff and Pat Horne, in particular,
who "vectored me in" to a final resolution of the problem.

It turns out the ordeal was precipitated by two different
and minor matters. Two "misadjustments" which interacted in
a way to as to mask one problem and suggest other problems
which really didn't exist.

I didn't previously know much about the rear brake system,
because I hadn't had any problems with it during those 35
years, only replacing the shoes several times, and adjusting
them from time to time as necessary. All my other attention
to the brakes had been with the front disks with which I had
"done a lot" and two master cylinder replacements
accomplished a long time ago.

I know a *lot more* about the rear brake system, now!!

My mistake had been to ask a local garage to do two things
for me. These were the type of things, which I had always
done in the past myself, but because of age-related
conditions, were becoming much more painful and difficult.
They were to: 1) adjust the parking brake, "so it would
hold", and, 2) install a replacement brake light switch, so
that my brake lights would work.

After their work, my brake lights did work, and my parking
brake did hold <grin>.

But, the rear brakes dragged badly... The garages response
was that they would need to overhaul the rear brakes, and to
replace the right grease seal. I didn't think I wanted them
to do any more...

I now have a completely overhauled rear brakes, done by
myself, and a new master cylinder in shipment, which I don't
need. I'll put it in spares, for when I do.

My brakes feel and stop great...,

My parking brake holds...

My brake lights DON'T come on :-) (BUT I CAN FIX IT
MYSELF!!!)

Thanks a lot, guys!!
