If you are thinking multi viscosity it better be 80W-90.  The gears are 
under extreme pressure, and need an extreme lubricant.  Synthetic works 
great, but if you have any seals that old, and perhaps getting a bit hard 
(close to being done, but perhaps only sweating, but not quite leaking) 
synthetic will find them, and you'll get leaks.  If you can though Synthetic 
is the way to go.

And by the way, I've been a licenced mechanic for 20+ years.
