half shafts

Hi FOT
Two things came to mind as I changed the TR's axle today for PIR.

The half shaft failures that I have had inboard of the bearing were all
ones that were not visable before the weekend. I have to change gear
ratios almost every race, and always inspect the shafts when I do.

I also rinspected the wheel loss axle. The main failure surface
was approx. 3/16" inside the outter end of the bearing. Thus, even
with the hub removed it probably would be hidden unless the bearing
was also removed.
Just where did the other wheel loss TR shafts fail?

I find that removing the bearing usually scars the
shaft, even when using the factory brg puller tools. The scars are lined up
with the shaft, and caused by the brg. I.D. Any thoughts?

I am glad that engineering resources are available for this most serious
problem. My team engineer is a soil engineer, so we use caution!!
                                Regards, Hardy
