When does the trans pop out of gear? Usually when you decelerate these puppies
will start by popping out of 3rd gear initially, followed by 4th or second.
The usual suspect is not the synchro, but the 1st/3rd motion shaft bearing
(the cheap fix), or the synchro hub itself (the expensive fix.) The synchros
themselves rarely give this sort of problem, although I have seen it happen
with a synchro that was cracked all the way thru, so you should look in
different areas. 
Replacement of all the bearings and synchros (even a hub if you have to), is
straightforward. That said, skill levels and experience come into play here.
