Hi!
I also had an '87 Honda hatchback -- the gold DX model (I lusted after
the Si, but the DX was what I could afford). He lasted me ten years and
207,000 miles, and was still running well and full of life when I sold
him (got a '93 Honda when I divorced, so one of them had to go). That
little car survived several years as a Domino's Pizza delivery vehicle
(as did the '69 Spit), several years as a videographer's vehicle running
all over south Louisiana carrying video equipment, lots of out-of-town
trips, and many other miles. I dearly loved him, and was truly sad to
see him go, and it almost broke my heart to hear that the girl I sold
him to (19-year-old daughter of a good friend) blew up the engine on the
way to California in him. She ignored the overheating warning light and
drove him until he quit. (He was the SECOND car she had done that to --
idiot b*!#%!!!!) He is now in a salvage yard in Arizona, and believe
me, I had planned several trips to Arizona (in my head) with the Jeep
and trailer, but it's just not worth it with all of the other things I
have to spend money and space on. I really miss him (somehow he never
got named -- I just can't find good names for later-model cars). He was
great -- NOTHING on that car went out unless it was from plain 'ole wear
and tear, except the CV joints due to the stupid rubber boots that get
messed up. (You'd think there would be a better way to do that now
(don't say, "Rear wheel drive!"), but no, it's still the same old rubber
boot.)
He was quick, nimble, totally reliable, comfortable, roomy, and FUN!! I
have a lot of fond memories.
