Can't help on the magneto question, but from personal experience,
Charles Runyan and I ran without a working alternator on the One-Lap
TR-250 for some 20+ hours before running the battery down to where
the engine died (20 miles from the finish). We ran those 20+
hours with an onboard computer and the OD engaged most of
the time. We also ran in the rain for a couple of hours with
wipers on. We ran through the night with NO lights in the
shadow of a friendly 18 wheeler.

4 hours with only using the battery for ignition shouldn't be
a problem with today's batteries.

Good luck,

Co-driver, 1988 One-Lap TR-250
