The TR4 heads designed for the 86mm pistons have a diagonal squish area
cut into the side of the combustion chamber to lower the compression.
The earlier TR3 heads designed for use with the 83mm pistons do not have
this squish area.

The TR3A & 4 heads up to 21470E have intake passages that are 1-5/8 inch
dia. Later heads have a 1-1/2 inch dia intake port. Since the ports may
not be stock there is another way of checking. The newer heads have a
raised flat section above and to the rear of the number one intake port.
The very latest head has aluminum push rod enclosure tubes. Earlier ones
are steel.

I have done some research into heads and have presented what I have found
in my personal web site. http://www.cruzers.com/~twakeman will get you
to the home page of my site and provide you with the navigational buttons.

http://www.cruzers.com/~twakeman/TR/FAQ.heads.htm will jump you directly
to the web page that has my head configuration chart and drawings.

If anyone has anything to add to what I already have I would appreciate
additional info.

Take care,
