Sometime ago I looked up the history of deceleration injury as it related to
an occupant of a fast moving vehicle. I can't recall the exact
referrance -it was something like Aviation and Space Monthly...(published by
the US military..). One day I will go through my papers and find the
source.. Anyways early articles discussed such matters..( in the late 40's
50's ). Test pilots strapped into seats would experience rapid
acceleration (ejection predecessors and rapid deceleration...... ). I
don't think that this kind of research would "fly" today. Somehow, I
recall that pre-loading the spine in compression by having the shoulder
harness pull down on the clavicles actually, excerbated spinal injuy.
My shoulder harness is actually attached about 5deg above my shoulders.
Only the lap belt holds me down.
