I checked with a buddy who does some fancy fabrication--he builds pump
equipment for pollution testing (hey, it's January. I haven't seen him for
awhile and everything seems important today). He says these guys will
sometime fit in some small work, but it won't be super cheap
http://www.aqts.com/ndt/ if you really want radiography of the part. As I
suspected, he said Magnaflux is probably all you really want, and you can
get that done at most machine shops. You can buy the stuff yourself at
http://4ndtnsi.com/ and become a magnaflux and Zyglo wizard. My friend
says DC maganflux is almost as good as x-ray at detecting subsurface flaws
in small parts. I did not know that.

Dye penetrate testing is fun, but stay away from discos for a while after
you do some. You'll light up like a searchlight. I always manage to get it
all over myself.

Hi Keptin!

Brad and I have Tristan's rear axles magnafluxed annually (just to make
sure) and we have it done locally (Dallas area). Taylor Race Engineering
handles it, but they send them out to an aircraft company to actually do
the work. I believe it was $25 each to have them done. I have not
checked into X-raying because this works fine and is inexpensive.

Keep Triumphing,
Susan :)

Brings up a good question...How many of you have had parts x-rayed for
crack/flaw testing? Where did you did someone to do it? Were they local
or did you have to send the bits out? What was the experience like? I
have a few front spindles I need checked (non TR application) and new
ones are not available (at all).

Thanks!
Bob
